The mean gravity model shows seasonal as well as diurnal variation. • The site specific as well as regional NWM model has been developed for Indian region. It has been used to estimate PWV with mm accuracy. The advantage of the model is that it is independent of surface temperature. • The site-specific weighted and regional mean temperature models have been developed for extra tropical region. Analysis of variables through log linear modelling for the selection of most significant ones to assist in reduction in data size increasing the efficiency of forest mapping from remotely sensed data. The approach may be utilised by forestry agencies in forest management and planning of forest resources at operational level. The site specific and regional ZHD model have been developed for Indian study areas based on surface pressure. The model has been found to be highly accurate and accuracy may be expected up to sub millimeter and even less.
