These places form a very essential part of our lives at IIT Roorkee.

Hangout Places

Our campus has numerous eating hubs, present at prominent locations. These foster essential interactions between students and are often seen bustling with activity.

Georgia cafe, being located in close proximity to the new lecture hall complex, the students club and various hostels, ensures it being a great centre of interactions.

Nescafe, being located near the sports complex, also sees it being full of students on a daily basis.

The Multi Activity Centre, has Cafe Coffee Day, an Amul parlor and Saatviko Idea Cafe. Besides serving food, the idea cafe works a discussion centre for students, housing a conference room and a recreation zone.

There are multiple such eateries throughout the campus like the alphar cafe and various hostel cafes.

Each hostel has fresh fruit stalls and canteens with large seating spaces for students to eat as well as interact with their peers.

To satisfy the night cravings of students we even have night cafes like the Shri Balaji Cautley Bhawan Cafe which operates once all canteens done serving, from 2 A.M to 2 P.M.

Banks

There are two banks on-campus: the Punjab National Bank (P.N.B.) and the State Bank of India(S.B.I.). Both the banks provide Centralised Banking Services, Internet Banking and A.T.M. facilities. On enrollment, every student of IIT-R must open an account with either bank.

Both the banks are centrally located. While P.N.B. is near the post office, the S.B.I branch on campus is located in the main building. The A.T.M. of Punjab National Bank is located next to the bank. S.B.I. operates 2 A.T.M.s on-campus- one near the bank branch and the other in Cautley Bhawan. Apart from these, many banks have branches and A.T.M. facilities in the town, that is, off-campus.

Post Office

The campus has a post office within its premises which is situated near the U.G. club. The post office is well equipped and caters to the needs of the students and the faculty, as well as the non-residents of the campus. The post office works on all weekdays from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., and on Saturdays from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Railway Reservation Counter

For the convenience of students, the Indian Railways has set up a computerised railway reservation counter on-campus. It is located opposite to the Institute Hospital and is open from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M.. The students may also avail of concessions on tickets home during vacations.

Places Of Worship

IIT Roorkee is a place where people of different faiths come together in learning. To ensure that all their religious customs are maintained, a number of places of worship are constructed on campus. A Temple dedicated to the Goddess Saraswati, near the football field in Saraswati Kunj, a Church near the main gate and a Mosque near Khosla International House, all dot the campus and add to its charm. Among the most peaceful places on campus, all these places of worship are the prime destination when all one wants to do is get away from it all.

The campus of the institute is well secured and surrounded by boundary walls. There are security guards at every entrance gate, who check all the vehicles entering the campus. Inside the campus, a number of security booths keep a strict vigil. Complaints regarding security can be registered in the security office.
