CTRANS is a Centre of excellence of IIT Roorkee in the area of Transportation and infrastructure. The Centre aims to evolve a holistic approach to the study of Transport & management systems. CTRANS is primarily a multi-disciplinary initiative with the collective participation of Engineers, Architects, Planners, Scientists and Researchers from Science & Technology, Humanities and Social science, Architecture & Planning and Management backgrounds. The aim of CTRANS is to promote multi-disciplinary research and education for manpower development in transportation systems encompassing all modes of Transport such as Road Transport, Non-motorized Transport(NMT), Rail Transport, Inland Water Transport, Air Transportation, Freight & Logistics Transport etc.



OUR OBJECTIVES
To promote multidisciplinary research on transportation systems.
To provide technical support to national projects related to the growth of Transportation System in the country.
Establishment of International Linkage for collaborative research in the frontier areas.
Creation of a Resource Centre for rapid dissemination of information and knowledge.

The Centre for Transportation Systems (CTRANS) organized SYNERGIA 2026: Government-Industry-Academia Meet on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the BSBE Auditorium, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Under the theme 'Driving Progressive Transportation for NextGen Mobility,' the event aimed to bridge the gap between government bodies, industry leaders, and academic researchers to foster innovative, sustainable solutions for future mobility challenges. The event featured an Inauguration followed by insightful expert lectures, a poster presentation showcasing emerging research, and a panel discussion with distinguished luminaries from CSIR-CRRI, DIMTS, NITI Aayog, UKMRC, SGA, and IIT Roorkee.

The Centre for Transportation Systems (CTRANS) organized ThinkQuest, its second Center Research Day, on April 12–13, 2024, at the CTRANS Studio, IIT Roorkee. The event featured distinguished experts Prof. Geetam Tiwari (IIT Delhi) and Prof. Travis Waller (TU Dresden). The program included expert lectures, a poster exhibition, and research presentations by participants. The event aimed to provide a comprehensive platform for experts, faculty, and scholars to discuss ongoing research and interdisciplinary themes in transportation systems.

The Centre for Transportation Systems (CTRANS) organized SynergiA: Industry-Academia Meet on February 16–17, 2023, at the Biotech Auditorium, IIT Roorkee. The event brought together esteemed industry leaders to foster collaboration with businesses in the transportation infrastructure sector and develop innovative solutions for the country's transportation challenges. The two-day program featured workshops, expert lectures, panel discussions, and an idea competition.
