Recognizing the need to strengthen the science-policy-practice interface through research integration and synthesis to strategic knowledge on Climate Change, the Centre of Excellence with unique and special mandates Integrated Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change, Disaster Risk-Resilience and Sustainability has been established by Govt. of India Department of Science & Technology (Climate Change Programme) with Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee at Greater Noida Campus. The ICARS envisioned as an extension on the key outcomes of DST supported HRD Programme "CAP-RES" (Climate Adaptive Planning for Resilience and Sustainability in Multi-hazard Environment 2019-2023), act as integrated support system to National Mission on Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change (NMSKCC). NMSKCC is the only cross-cutting National Mission on National Action Plan on Climate Change in India and is focused on knowledge systems to support strategy covering the aspects including sectoral aspects and contexts covered under all other NAPCC Mission. Water related Risks-resilience are at Core Of ICARS Special emphasis. India’s National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR 3rd Session) recommendations, besides the Prime Minister’s 10 Point Agenda on DRR, National Adaptation Plan Process, National Biodiversity Strategy, Mission LiFE, etc. are among some of the contexts in mandating ICARS’s roles and functions focused on science-policy-practice interface.
