Message From Head of the Department

Welcome to the webpage of the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. We are academic-oriented research institution, while both teaching and research are the integral parts. We attract bright young minds to conduct undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as the Ph.D. and Postdoctoral research program. Students are our strength and alumni are the assets in our department. Department accommodates world-class faculty members who are great teachers as well as researchers in the forefront. We are also supported by a group of staff members who discharge their duties efficiently and enthusiastically both on the technical and administrative fronts. Contemporary as well as fundamental research remain as our drives. Our department along with the Institute's instrumental/computational facility, is well-equipped to execute the research on various fields of chemical/physical/materials sciences that spans a broad range of spectrum including organic synthesis, catalysis, electrochemistry, mechanochemistry, functional materials, interfacial chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, high energy density materials, ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear spectroscopy, energy harvesting, active matter, artificial cells, and theoretical /computational chemistry. We look forward to your active participation to reach the utmost development of our department. While we study hard, we also promote extracurricular activities through several cultural performances and sport events. In addition, we engage ourselves in outreach activities to reach different corners of the society. To conclude this message, let me extend a warm welcome to all of you.
