Team DEQ Finalist at Tata Steel's Flagship Event (MaterialNEXT)
MaterialNext is Tata Steel's flagship program across India and is based on themes and issues that Tata Steel has already identified. This year, the themes were innovation in sustainability and materials, and 166 teams from 56 institutions across India participated in the competition. 8 teams were selected for the Grand Finale. The one team consisted of Krishna M, Thamizhinian B, and Tamilselvan N, while the another team consisted of Tamilselvan N, Devyani T, Krishna M, and Anubhav C as well as Prof. PCA Kumar, who was mentoring both the teams.
Both the teams passed round-1 and round-2 rounds as the concepts were deemed intriguing, creative and promising. After approx. 3 months of hard work by the team members and working staff, the first team was awarded a recognition award along with a prize of ₹25,000. The award was presented during the felicitation ceremony held at Jamshedpur on June 1, 2022. The team expresses its deepest gratitude to Tata Steel for organizing this event and allowing young and experienced minds to present their research ideas on such a large platform. The team appreciates the encouragement of the mentor during the competition. The Department of Earthquake Engineering and IIT Roorkee deserve special recognition for their tremendous support and provision of excellent resources.
