Work Science Laboratory
About
The experiments and exercises studies developed in the Work systems laboratory are related to a variety of aspects and issues, such as method study principles, analysation of work and recovery cycles for jobs, anthropometry and postural analysis, use of time rating tables, time study of assembly and machining jobs, and so on.

The following experimental setups and studies are carried out in this laboratory
1) Preparation of String diagram experiments for a given operation/activity
The goal of this research is to teach students how to create String Diagrams. Students will be given the appropriate tools, such as a board with specified positions on a chart, threads, nails, and measuring tapes. This helps to convey the fundamentals of transportation methods used in operations research while minimising idle time.

2) Conducting Method Analysis for Screw-Washer assembly operation
This experiment aims at comparing the two methods of making screw-washer assembly and to make Left- and Right-hand process chart for each method. A Screw- Washers assembly apparatus is available at the laboratory. The laboratory is equipped a Screw-Washers assembly equipment. This activity is helpful in developing a critical way of thinking about job design, such as using both hands, removing unnecessary tasks and delays, minimizing distances, and simplifying the tasks involved. When work design is reviewed, such studies attempt to make the student critically aware of inadequacies and needless efforts, and to assist build a sense of the need for improved productivity.

3) Conducting Time Study on drilling operations
This experiment aims at finding out standard time for drilling a hole of 8mm diameter in 4 mm thick workpiece.
This laboratory also conducts research to rate an operator in card dealing activity and walking activity. These experiments aid in understanding the rating evaluation for various operators, which can then be utilised to settle incentives in industry. They are vital in developing a critical way of thinking about work processes.
