Hydropower Simulation Laboratory
The laboratory is developed in 2015, with asynchronous and synchronous generators, multi-level power electronic converters, digital signal processors and dSPACE control kits, power quality analyzers, programmable power supplies, and digital storage oscilloscopes. It is committed for the research in support with national organizations including THDC India Limited, Central Power Research Institute, Department of Science of Technology, Ministry of Shipping, and Indian Maritime University (Vishakhapatnam). This is an unique laboratory of its kind in the country. This lab deals with the simulation of graphical input/output of the various components of a hydropower plant including dam, penstock, hydro-mechanical equipments, hydro-generators (both synchronous and asynchronous in large capacity), multi-channel power electronic circuits for excitation and variable speed operation, grid interface, etc.

To support simulation study, the following addition facilities are developed.

1. Real time interface, through dSPACE 1104, of simulation tool with the prototype model of various generators used in hydropower plants.
2. Possible grid disturbances are to be created by the help of programmable AC Power source and analyze the performance of hydro-generating equipments.
