"Water Security for Sustainable Development" aims to provide a platform for academicians, researchers, practitioners, stakeholders, students, engineers and industry professionals to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the field of the water security.

Background

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee jointly decided to organize regular international conference every two years in the area of various facets of water to be known as Roorkee Water Conclave (RWC). The first water conclave was organize broadly focusing on "Hydrological Aspects of Climate Change" during February 26-28, 2020. The preseent water conclave is being organized broadly focusing on "Water Security for Sustainable Development" during March 02-04, 2022.

Water Security is emerging as a primary tenet in sustainibility debate across the golbe, as water forms the fundamental link between the climate, human society and neutral environment. Realizing Water Security is the biggest challenge for researchers and ppolicy makers in the 21st century, particularly with growing concerns of climate change impacts on already stressed water systems. Population growth, unconstrained water use, and shocks from climate change induced water-related disasters pose increasing risks on water resources. In response to the growing risks the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include a dedicated goal for securing water resources (SDG 6) with the aim to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitaion for all in order to maintain safe access to water, address water scarcity, sanitation, and risks to sustainable use of water.

Understanding water security and its multiple facets underpins sustainable water resource management and key component of Socail development. Detailed and accurate information that can enrich understanding of the causes and determinants of water security in environmental, natural, and societal aspects including climate, environment, food, energy, economy, and public health is needed to guide decision making around potential adaptation and mitigation solutions. Keeping in view, the importance of Water Security for Sustainable Development, it is necessary to identify the key issues and challenges, to promote enactment of SDGs globally.

Science and scientific research plays a key role in achieving water security goals in an integrated and equitable manner and guide policies. The Roorkee Water Conclave, 2022 strives to assimilate the learnings from different disciplines that cover various facets of water security. The conference also aims to accelerate interaction among various stakeholders.
