The Centre for Semiconductor Design and Technology envisions becoming a nationally and globally recognised centre of excellence that drives innovation, research leadership, and skilled workforce development in semiconductor design and manufacturing. Aligned with India’s aspiration to emerge as a global semiconductor hub and supported by initiatives such as the India Semiconductor Mission, the centre aims to strengthen indigenous capabilities across the complete semiconductor value chain, from design and simulation to prototyping and manufacturing.

The mission of the centre is to establish a strong foundation in microelectronics and semiconductor technologies through high-quality education, advanced research, and industry-oriented training. It is committed to offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs with enhanced laboratory infrastructure, cleanroom facilities, and hands-on learning. The centre focuses on pioneering research in areas such as VLSI design, semiconductor devices, modelling, packaging, and fabrication to generate intellectual property and a highly skilled workforce.

Through strategic collaboration with academic institutions, semiconductor industries, EDA tool providers, government bodies, startups, and industry associations, the centre promotes technology integration, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Emphasis is placed on long-term internships, specialisation courses, industry-sponsored projects, and faculty–industry engagement to bridge the gap between academia and manufacturing. Together, this integrated vision and mission aim to support technological self-reliance, innovation-led growth, and global competitiveness in the semiconductor domain.
