It is a true pleasure to speak about the Department of Architecture and Planning of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee). By 2026, our UG course will be 70 years old and we are looking forwards planning for the Platinum Jubilee Events, the MURP programme is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year and the M.Arch program will mark Emerald Jubilee in 2025. Allow me to highlight key strengths that have supported our journey.

At Department of Architecture and Planning (DAP) level we are proud in nurturing the talents of students and scholars, while providing support and opportunities for staff and Faculty. Our dynamic, structured and robust curriculum is a testament to the department’s legacy. We offer well-equipped Classrooms, Design Studios, Digital Design Studios, Laboratories such as the Art Lab, Climatology Lab and, Fabrication Lab. Our department also benefits from open interactive spaces and a Canteen, alongside the invaluable soft assets of knowledge management through classes, courses and software.

At the Institute level we are supported by the Institute Academic Facilities within a vibrant Campus and Interdisciplinary Environment. Facilities like Lecture Hall Complex, Central Library flooded with digital resources, Central Computer and Instrumentation Centre, Innovation Hub, Tinkering Lab, are buttressed by well-structured Semester programme and Evaluation methods that cater to each Academic including DAP. Our campus provides facilities to keep students physically, psychologically and socially fit and relevant, including Clubs, Societies, Sports facilities with backup system of fitness program, hospital, and wellness centre. The Hardware of our system is complemented by the essential support of our software/ soft assets. Extracurricular activities also need mention here with honors. An interdisciplinary professional environment encourages students and faculty to explore relevant knowledge, networking and innovation. Many of our courses are enriched by Faculty from other departments and Professionals.

We are deeply humbled and grateful that our department has been recognised for its excellence for consecutive years by NIRF and India Today. This remarkable achievement is rooted in the creativity, hard work and innovative spirit of our students, scholars, staff and Faculty, and it reminds us of our ongoing responsibility. Our future work plan includes exploring further opportunities through our Industry connections, leveraging our Alumni network and focusing on action-oriented and socially relevant research and innovations. I express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed, individually or collectively, to maintaining the high standards of our department, whether they are part of the DAP family, the IIT R Community, Industry partners, Alumni or others.
