The PSE Group conducts research and education in a broad range of activities. Some of the critical areas of the group’s programme are power systems planning, markets, protection, renewable integration, AC/DC microgrids, HVDC & FACTS and High Voltage Engineering. The group is always thriving to be involved in several thrust areas that are important for developing the country’s electric power infrastructure. The group has ten dynamic faculty members who work closely with their motivated students on this mission and regularly contribute papers and articles to international technical journals and patents.
The research interests of the faculty members include Power system dynamics and stability, State estimation, Wide-area monitoring, Optimal power dispatch, Security analysis and control, Energy management system and distribution automation, Power system restructuring, Renewable sources based DC microgrid and power electronic converters for solar PV systems.
The group has been highly active in providing technical expertise to industry and government through consultancy, sponsored projects and continuing education programmes. The faculty members have a strong research network across the globe within industries and Indian/foreign academia. The group currently has three fully equipped laboratories with state of the art software and hardware, which equip the UG, PG and PhD students with the latest technologies to carry out their research. Some of the facilities available with the group are PV Emulators, DFIG Based Wind Emulator, Lead Acid batteries, Super-capacitor, Li-Ion Batteries, Programmable AC-DC loads, Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger, Unidirectional DC-DC Boost Converter, Digital Signal Oscilloscope, Smart Meters, Power Amplifiers, Real-Time Digital Simulator, OPAL-RT, etc.
The PSE group offers an M.Tech. programme in Power System Engineering. This discipline encompasses all aspects of electrical energy, innovation in its generation, transmission, delivery, renewable resources, and efficient devices. The course deals with the reliable methods to plan, operate and control an extensive electrical power network in the most economical manner.
