SEM

Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) is used for imaging solid samples like metals, ceramics, fibers, powders, thin films, etc. EDS detector is used for estimating elemental composition of various samples. EBSD detector is helpful in texture analysis, phase identification and orientation. Non-conducting samples are sputtered with a layer of gold/Palladium to ensure imaging without sample charging.
Two types of SEM are available namely,
• Thermionic Emission SEM
• Field Emission SEM

Thermionic Emission SEM

Sample Requirements:
Sample must be bone dry to avoid degassing in the chamber. Max sample dimension is 10mm. Porous samples must be preheated at suitable temperature to remove volatile elements/compounds.

Procedure for Sample Submission/Testing:
IITR Users:
MMED IITR users need to submit duly signed form at the office of the Officer In-charge. Non-MMED IITR users need to forward the form through Head, MMED.
For Non-IITR users: The requisition Form for SEM duly forwarded by the concerned Supervisor/Head, with details of NEFT/RTGS/UPI transfer and GST number of the concerned Institute, may kindly be sent to the postal address. E-mail Id and mobile number is to be clearly written in the application.

The Mode of Payment is only by online transfer through NEFT/RTGS/UPI. The details of account for the same is as under:
