Essay Writing Competition

Essay Writing Competition

To celebrate the "International Women's Day-2023 (IWD-2023)," the Gender advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI-IITR) pilot program at IIT Roorkee is organizing an Essay Writing Competiton On Titled: "Holding On and Letting Go: Equity and Inclusion Policies and Practice In India: Perspective on Good Equity & Inclusion Practices of India that we need to hold on to while letting go of and reforming the challenges/roadblocks to creating the dream India."

"Equity" is the practice of providing fair opportunities via personalized approaches based on individual needs, thus aiming to "level the playing field" by taking into account the different starting points of different individuals. Therefore, "equity" aims to achieve fairness by considering each individual's trajectory and context and should not be confused with the notion of "equality," which aims to treat everyone the same. "Inclusion" specifies the desired outcome, ensuring that individuals find opportunities and spaces to participate, regardless of their differences.

Through this essay competition, the GATI program at IIT Roorkee aims to sensitize our community on the importance of equal participation of all gender in each activity (academic and curricular), decision-making, availing facilities, and career progression and skill development programs on campus. This event also aims to promote the institute's growth by creating an inclusive and supported community.
