ABOUT THE INSTITUTE AND THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Hydrology is one of the 23 academic departments of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The Department came into existence with the inception of the International Post Graduate Course in Hydrology in 1972, being the first such a program in a developing country. The courses, offered by the Department are presently sponsored by the Government of India and UNESCO. The Department has nine dedicated full-time faculty members having specializations in surface water hydrology (Floods, Droughts), water resources systems, watershed management, Geo-hydrology, groundwater geophysics, stochastic hydrology, hydro-informatics, environmental hydrology, atmospheric physics, climate change, etc.

RECENT AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Prof. Brijesh Kumar Yadav has been nominated as the Chairperson of the "Expert Committee on Ground Water" by the Sikkim Government on the recommendation of the Honorable High court of the state. The main role of this committee is to provide technical inputs and guidance to the Sikkim State Ground Water Committee (SGWC) for better management of groundwater resources.
Prof. Brijesh Kumar Yadav has been selected Association of Global Groundwater Scientists (AGGS)-Fellow award for his contributions in the areas of Groundwater Hydrology.
Prof. D S Arya has been nominated as a member of the state committee of Dams Safety of Maharashtra State.
Prof. M K Jain has been nominated as a member of the state committee of Dams Safety of West Bengal State.
Prof. Brijesh K Yadav has been nominated as a member of the state committee of Dams Safety of Uttarakhand State.
Prof. Ankit Agarwal and Prof. Ashutosh Sharma have joined the Water security Journal as guest Editors for Water Security for Sustainable Development Special Issue.
Prof. Ankit Agarwal has been nominated as a member of the technical committee for the 8th R&D International Conference on “Global Trends in Water Resources, Power and RE Technologies’’, from 20-23rd December 2022 at IIT Gandhinagar by the Central Board of Irrigation & Power, New Delhi.
